Because children have lower body weights and less-developed metabolisms, they are more vulnerable to toxic effects from synthetic chemicals. That makes this news from Texas all the more disturbing: Children as young as three years old are being forced to take mind-altering drugs by Child Protective Service employees in that state. An investigation by a San Antonio television station in 2004 discovered that two out of every three foster children in Texas had been placed on psychotropic medications, many of them on two or more such drugs. One child was being forced to take seventeen different prescription drugs to alter or regulate behavior and sleep. At least three hundred children under the age of seven were found to be on multiple mood and behavior medications.
